We hadn't really planned to keep Izzy, as he was spoken for before he was even born. But due to his potential new owner's life-threatening illness, Izzy didn't leave when his sibling did. I was looking for another home for him when one day Richard said to me, "you can keep him if you want to." You see, Richard had fallen in love with this big, silly, loveable puppy. Izzy made his show debut at the East of England Championship Show in July 2010 at 8 months of age with no prior ring training, or even trips off our property, as the boarding kennel business is a 24 hour a day job. Imagine my delight when he won Best Dog, winning over another Canaan that was 4-1/2 years old at the time. Izzy went on to be Top Canaan Puppy 2010. But that was only the beginning as at the tender age of 17 months, and with very limited showing, Izzy has already won 3 Best of Breeds over much older Canaans. He is only getting better with age and we hope we have the time to get him to a few more shows and do him justice. We also look forward to the day that he sires his first litter, as producing puppies as good, or better, than himself, will be the real proof of he pudding Izzy loves nothing more than plopping himself onto the settee, squeezing me over and putting his head on my lap. He still has a lot of growing up to do. Canaans are not mature until they are between 3 and 5 years of age. But in the meantime we'll continue to enjoy his antics and manic playtimes with his mum and our 'Ruby', as well as our Tibetan Spaniels. |
